ABOUT
Abstract
Inspired by social movements of the past, Black Lives Matter (BLM) is an impactful global activist movement that emerged following the wrongful death of Trayvon Martin in 2012. Began in lieu of the outrage of the lack of recognition and acquittal of this murder, this movement has taken a stand against violence and systemic racism directed towards African-American individuals in our communities. At its core, BLM strives to bring attention to issues such as racial profiling, police brutality, and the racial inequalities that exist within the United States criminal justice system. Through its powerful demonstrations and advocacy, Black Lives Matter continues to make significant strides in challenging racial injustice and promoting equal treatment for black individuals globally.
